MM2 Modern Dance to offer Three FREE Programs at The Porch at 30th Street Station

Philadelphia’s MM2 Modern Dance Company will be offering three FREE programs this spring at The Porch at 30th Street Station. Through a generous grant to University City District from the William Penn Foundation, MM2 will present their latest work BREATH as well as site specific improvisation on Sunday, April 27th (Rain Date: June 29), Sunday, May 18th (Rain Date: July 13th) and Sunday, June 1st (Rain Date: July 27th). All performances are from 1:00pm – 2:00pm.

The company, which is set to tour in June in Toronto, Canada, is comprised of seven dancers and choreographers – Jessica Bryan, Jenna Faye Eugenides, Kaylee Goodwin, Jillian Ikeler, Jennifer Laucella, Alison Liney, and Brianne Scott.  Unlike most dance companies, each company member is charged with creating and setting new work each year on the entire company.

BREATH is a collection of seven pieces which focus on how our breath is the bridge which connects consciousness to nature and life itself.  We are continually moving through air, much the same way a fish moves through water. By breathing we are attuned to the world around us, sharing the air with nature and each other.  Our breath expresses our inner feelings, our state of well-being, our excitement and even our anxieties.  Breath flows endlessly through all, sustaining us, and allowing us to express life’s nuances.

Artistic Director, Brianne Scott goes on to say, “There is no better setting for our work than being outdoors at the Porch and sharing our passion and dance with the Philadelphia community.”  The group had appeared at the Porch in 2013 as part of the Solow Festival and “fell in love with the space”, Scott adds.
