Sneak Preview of ONE WORD at ETC. Performance Series

On Saturday & Sunday, June 4th and 5th at 8pm, MM2 Modern Dance will present a sneak preview of works in progress from their upcoming production of “One Word” at the ETC Performance Series.  The ETC Performance Series, under the direction of Charles Tyson, Jr., has been an opportunity for performance artists of any and all genres to show their work to a new and diverse audience in an intimate venue at the Community Education Center, 3500 Lancaster Avenue, Philadelphia.

For MM2’s upcoming season, they have been busy in the studio creating, ONE WORD. Each of the eight company members have choreographed pieces based on a single word. Artistic Director, Steven Weisz goes on to explain, “From the very beginning when the first words were uttered, the ability to communicate has played an important role in our world. Whether within our own thoughts, spoken or written, words have the power to transform the world we live in. Love, laughter, heroism, friendship, and virtually every emotion we feel as human beings can be inspired by words. Unfortunately, fear, anger, and hatred, can also be invoked. Language is at its best when used to inspire others to find the best in themselves.”

Saturday night’s performance will feature choreographers –  Jenna Faye Eugenides – “Intrepid”,  Kaylee Goodwin – “Persevere” and Shara Harad – “Clairvoyence”.  On Sunday, the company will present choreographers Jessica Bryan – “Penitent” ,  Katelyn Capato – “Need” and a duet by Heather Fleischman and Brianne Scott – “Banter”.

By selecting a single word to represent each piece, it not only provides a framework for the choreographer but the audience as well, making modern dance more accessible.  This is in keeping with the company’s mission to provide an opportunity for dancers to explore the choreographic process and have a chance to present their work to both the professional dance community as well as the public.

MM2 Modern Dance Company has evolved as a leader in imaginative movement and creative collaboration for post-college dance majors in career transition.  It is the vision of MM2 to deliver positive, affirming and life-enriching experiences to audiences, through the medium of dance and movement, while also developing new dance fans by creating works of artistry that engage and motivate audiences.
