After a successful summer tour in Italy, MM2 Modern Dance Company brings to Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ, on Sunday, August 18th, 2013 at 2:00pm, the USA premiere of their new dance work, THREE. The performance will be rain or shine and is free with park admission.
THREE is a collection of short stories, if you will, with dances that are no more than three minutes in length. The structure of the dance company is such that there is no single choreographer; rather each dancer is charged with setting work on their fellow company members. THREE poses the challenge of fulfilling a concise vision by creating a carefully orchestrated piece in a brief and fixed amount of time.
THREE first premiered in Arezzo, Italy, to a capacity crowd, where the company recently toured during the summer under a WHW Foundation grant. The company had the opportunity to study dance and perform in Florence, Arezzo and Venice.
THREE is comprised of a total of eighteen short dance pieces developed by the nine company members. The subject of these pieces is as diverse as the company members, covering such themes as cycles of life, finding balance, mental health, selfless love, strength and even a personal journey to a most surreal world.
MM2 Modern Dance Company, under the direction of Steven Weisz, has established itself as an incubator, providing support, space and opportunities for new emerging dance artists, who wish to explore the choreographic process, in order to cultivate and introduce new work to new audiences.
This season’s dancers/choreographers are: Jessica Bryan, Katelyn Capato, Jenna Faye Eugenides, Heather Fleischman, Angela Frezzo, Kaylee Goodwin, Jennifer Laucella, Brianne Scott and Matthew Varvar.
THREE is also scheduled to be premiered in the upcoming FringeArts Festival (formerly the Philly Fringe) in early September.
